no more rain
it's up to me
to fall or not to fall
stay up and
gather momentum
come down hard
on the tin rooftop
when i'm safe
and warm inside
no more rain
warm inside
no more rain
calm inside
no more rain
lightening comes with
no more rain

poetry comes when no one is looking
when all are fascinated
by the flashing lights
and the sirens
it comes in the garbage
that' s left on the sidewalk
what was old was new
again the cycle begins
it comes in the sunlight
off construction sites
and men with hammers in their pockets
in the mud the machines make
it comes in the tired eyes closing
subway sleep through the
announcements of what's next to come
jolting awake
it comes in in the morning
when thougths aren't fully formed
in the absence of shape
it comes
like water.

hunger comes from boredom
today there is so much
to fill us up
still stomach growling
grumbling
under the florescent light
will this change with the seasons
will this change with musical chairs
hunger in the monotony
hunger in the concrete
hunger in the too tight
they come and go without speaking
without speaking they come
and go without speaking
go now without speaking
without rumbling

my fingers are cold and my toes
i'm holding onto summer
even though i love the fall
the leaves cracking
veins are dried and brittle
breaking apart in the wind
under the gray is the sun
but she is nervous and so
stays hidden
there are people here
the colour of earth
but it doesn't make them
closer to it
they litter just like everyone
outside the drinkers
don't feel the cold
even through cotton t-shirts
unravelling

his pants are ripped so
they are no longer pants
rags with pockets and belt loops
he doesn't ask me if i can spare some change
outside the sidewalk is painted concrete
all neon lines and words
i can't make out
the code is there but is
unbreakable
i have coffee and it spills
on my hand
brown river mark drop
startles me awake
